Loon's game concession workers

BMOA Executive Board would like to say thanks to all the people who
have volunteered to work at the Loon's game concessions. All is going
extremely well, and it seems that all workers are having a good time.
Alyson Schafer (Loon's rep), says all the workers are easy to work with
and are dong a great job. She is hoping that BMOA will consider doing
it again next year. We still have 2 games to work, July 4th and
September 1st. As of now we have enough workers signed up to work, but
if anything changes, we will send out a notice via
e-mail to ask for help.

Thanks again,
BMOA Executive Board

Football Update

Football is fast approaching and games are still being assigned as they are sent in. Officials please take the time to begin some conditioning drills this summer and be ready for opening night. I want to thank all of you for continuing to keep your availability up to date.

The MHSAA will be publishing a new mechanics guidebook this summer. The state has adopted some changes to federation mechanics. As soon as the changes are published I will send you a message regarding the changes.

Remember to pay your dues prior to July !st.

Volleyball Update

Hello to everyone,

It's getting that time of the year, volleyball is right around the corner. In preparation for the upcoming season I need all officials to start filling out there availablity, Please start to do this as soon as possible. let me know if you are not working volleyball this year, and also because there are a few tournaments before schools starts, let me know if you can work during the day starting Aug 22nd through Sept 2nd.

Remember to pay your dues to both BMOA and MHSAA. Dues for BMOA are due July First. I will start to assign games July 1st, if you have not paid your dues you will not be assigned any games until they are paid.

VERY IMPORTANT, when filling out your availablity make sure you are as accurate as possible. If you do not block out a date I assume you are available. I had way to many declines last year, which tells me some of you are picking a choosing what games you want to do. If you keep declining games it may reflect your schedule.

A few dates to remember:
BMOA rules meetings August 14, 21, and Sept 16, All start at 7:00 p.m. at Garber High School.

If you have any questions you can contact me at (989)450-9514 email tithofc@bcschools.net

Bay Metro Officials Association will hold its annual spring meeting on Tuesday March 18that the Garber High School Tech Hall. This year we have 4 positions up for re-election. They include President, Volleyball Assignor, Basketball Assignor and Football Assignor. The election committee consists of Kevin Sinicki and Craig Bauer. If you would like to run for one of the open positions, or nominate someone for a position, please contact Kevin or Craig. Nominations will be taken from the floor that evening by the meeting attendees. Please save the date and come to vote as well as get an update on BMOA activities.

We will also be voting on the school to receive the first annual Kenny VanSlyke Scholarship award. This a prestigious award given to the school that the “officials” feel best exemplifies sportsmanship and how the schools treat us, as officials, serviced by BMOA.

Thank-you,
Mark Gentle
BMOA Treasurer

2008 Spring Baseball

Welcome everyone. Record amounts of snow translates to snow shoes for plate shoes and a parca on the base path. Hopefully you have gotten out your gear and at least looked it over.

Just a few things to remember: Are your dues up to date? State and Local? I prefer not to be the dues cop checking everyone especially after I start assigning games. 2) Did you get on the Arbiter and block dates? It is amazing how many guys dump Alcona, Oscoda, West Branch , Hale, you get the picture. I will not reassign you games after you decline the ones for travel. Unless you e-mail me stating why you can't go on a particular date you had open I will leave it blocked and consider you full at that point. I've had well over 100 returns so far. Everyone needs to remember all of us may need to travel once or twice to some remote location. Several persons have contacted me with very valid reasons on specific dates, which is great, awesome and they are communicating. "I only do Varsity games," " I'm one of your top 5 umpires, I better get the best games," are just a few comments I've received so far this spring. Please remember we're here to serve the schools. I am not offended by phone calls or e-mails from umpires I don't know. If you have a question get ahold of me! Please. I believe we are going to disconnect my home phone 989-832-2145 because my wife and now all of my children have cell phones so call me exclusively on 989-859-4214. I do get alot of calls, and don't assume I know who you are, identify yourself (please).

Remember the meetings on the 20th, 25th and 26th. We'll have an o.k. speaker on the 20th, some of you know him Mike Luptowski, the 25th Mark Uyle is o.k. too! and on the 26th you're stuck with me. Oh well have a great day John Dayj
