August 2008 Meeting Quiz

 

Answer each of the 6 questions as a crew, or yourself and we will use them at the rules meeting on August 21st for the 1st part of the meeting.

 

This is an example of an answer for a ruling question.

 

Guard A62, directly across from B75, jumps and enters the neutral zone (a) after, or (b) at the same instant, B75 feints a charge and enters the neutral zone. There is no contact. Ruling:  In (a), encroachment by Team B. In (b), the fouls offset and no yardage penalty is enforced.

 

1:  Give the six situations where the captain may designate where to spot the ball.

2:   Runner A35 is tackled out of bounds on Team B’s 10 yard line. A second or two   later, A13 and B26 begin punching each other out of bounds. During the fight, sub B15 stays entirely out of bounds as he leaves his team box and walks down to the area of the scuffle, but does not participate in the fight. RULING:

 

3:   Fourth and 10 on Team K’s 20 yard line. K29 muffs the snap. R38 dives for the ball at the seven yard line and bats it into and out of the end zone. RULING:

 

4:   On a punt return B39 is streaking down Team A’s sideline and is in the clear when a member of the kicking team leaves the bench and tackles him. RULING:

 

5:   At the end of the fourth quarter, the game is tied. As the last play ends, a visiting team player is flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalty is enforced at the succeeding spot to begin the overtime period. The visiting team wins the coin toss. RULING:

 

6:   Following a safety, K1’s free kick is a punt from his 20 yard line. The kick travels almost straight up into the air. It lands on team K’s 25 yard line and rebounds back into team K’s end zone. K1 attempts to recover but only succeeds in muffing the ball back into the field of play. R1 then attempts to recover but fails, and K3 eventually recovers on team K’s four yard line.
